Day 4 Fingal Bay and lazy day

We had a late morning today, and at breakfast we decided to go to Fingal Bay for a swim. Fingal Bay is probably the biggest and longest beach I have ever seen. Then again, I have not seen so many beaches since I usually not go to beaches on holidays. This had really white and smooth sand, and on the edge where we ended up luckily a tree that gave some shadow. We tried to find a beach umbrella yesterday, but the shop had run out of them. I cannot stay for long in the sun here, and we are very careful to use a lot of sun lotion with high protection. Under our tree there where also a good "seat", made of rock. Even if the beach was rather crowded it was also spacious, so we were not particularly close to anyone else. The water is not very warm, you do feel that you step into it, but it is also possible to stay in the water for quite a long time. Maybe 21-22 degrees C, is our guess. A lot of people are using toys or playing ball games on the beach and in the water. It seems to be particularly popular to have different kinds of paddle boards. Some people are also fishing with rod very close to sunbathers, which feels both unusual and maybe not very safe. All went well today anyway, Alice nearly stepped on what she thought was a fish, but it might actually have been a sting ray....

On the beach
We went back to Nelson Bay for lunch, since we did not find a parking space by the café in Fingal Bay, it is really a lot of people out during the holiday here. I planned on going to Tea Gardens, but there was only one ferry to get there and none to take me home. Combined with the fact that I actually have a couple of blisters that hurt a bit I went home to our sundeck, sat on a sofa and fell asleep in the shadow there. It was so nice, and really feels as vacation. Lennart and Christina went for another bath on one of the beaches here in Nelson Bay. And got back and could report that they had a "close-to-swimming-with-dolphins-experience". They sighted a couple of dolphins on the spot where Lennart had been less than a minute earlier, he had just got out of the water!

The plan for the evening was to have seafood in the Wharf restaurant, it turned out that we should have booked and we ended up in the hotel restaurant. That is not a bad alternative at all, and we also had the sparkling wine that we missed yesterday.
